Brother Knights...

In the Gospel, Jesus tells his apostles to travel light. Life is too short to weigh ourselves down with excess baggage.

The reason we need to travel light is not that things are evil. We’re not supposed to tiptoe through the world as if we’ll be contaminated by material things. A faith that believes in a God who became fl esh and blood can’t have a negative attitude toward material things. A faith that believes in the Resurrection cannot have a negative attitude toward material things.

The reason for traveling light is not that we are supposed to have some discomfort toward material things. We are called to use and enjoy the things of earth. However, we can’t allow the accumulation of things to get in the way of our relationships with people.
People are always more important. Too much concern for things can also bog us down, using all our time and energy to acquire or maintain our “stuff.” The more we pile up, the less free we are to move wherever God wants us to go.

As we begin another year, we need to ask ourselves if we have our priorities right: God, family, community before all, with our possessions important only to the degree to which they help us serve God, family and community.

Worthy Brother Knights...

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a blessed and safe holiday season. The kids’ Christmas party was a great success, as we had a tremendous turnout. Christmas tree sales were slow at the beginning, but quickly caught up on the busy weekends. Thank you to everyone who donated their time and effort in getting the trees sold. A big thank you to Lou in keeping the tree lot and sales running smoothly, also to Jim and Pat Molson for their unending support in getting the help signed up and their help in running this great event--great Job!
I hope to see you all at the open house January 1st.

Vivat Jesus,

Columbia Club Year End Report

Your Columbia Club wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Your Club again wants to extend a warm thank you for all the hard work that takes place at the Club. Lou Adler continues on as
manager and once again has kept us moving in a forward direction that keeps your Club not only surviving but thriving.

Please give a hearty welcome to Seth Weston as your new assistant manager. Seth has joined the ranks to help in the day to day operations and learn the ropes of what is needed to make your Club a success. This is a new position that is in a try-out phase and its promise for the future is looking good. Diane Hutzenbiler keeps your Club very busy with booking events and has a great demeanor with the public and staff. Jim Moltzen and all the staff put forth a wonderful effort and add to your Club’s unique character. So to all these folks and the numerous other contributors, your club thanks you.

Your biggest update to the Club in 2011 was the installation of and paying for the new air conditioners. As always there is a major plan for long- and short-term improvements to your Club that is continually being implemented. By now, you have probably picked up on the "Your Club" theme of this note. The Columbia Club is and always has been "Your Club." We want you to enjoy your club, bring friends and family to your club, book your club for events, attend your club’s activities and take pride in your club.

Your club’s success in 2012 can only be accomplished with your sense of ownership. Rekindle old friendships and garner new ones and let us make 2012 the best year yet. We thank the good Lord for His blessings and cheers to a great 2012.

Jim Patterson
President, Columbia Club

Christmas Tree Fundraiser A Success
A big ‘Thanks’ to Lou Adler and all who volunteered their time for the 2011 Christmas Tree program. The committee sold over 1100 trees in December and raised over $20,000 to help local charities. In the last nine years, the project has generated over $180,000 for local charity. This is a cooperative program between St. Patrick’s Council 1259 and St. Pius X Council 9976. 124 volunteers donated 857 hours on the project. Billings Central High School students donated their time to help unload and organize the Christmas trees.
